Jail History and Structure

In 1989, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Smith Center. The justice center houses the Smith County county sheriff, Smith Center police department offices, and the Smith County Jail. The Smith County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Smith County Jail. Originally, the Smith County Jail could house approximately 1961 inmates.

Over the years, the Smith County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Smith County county.

Juvenile Detention Center
