Jail History and Structure

In 1980, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Ekalaka. The justice center houses the Carter County county sheriff, Ekalaka police department offices, and the Carter County Jail. The Carter County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Carter County Jail. Originally, the Carter County Jail could house approximately 2083 inmates.

Over the years, the Carter County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Carter County county.
