Jail History and Structure
In 1989, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Salem. The justice center houses the Marion County county sheriff, Salem police department offices, and the Marion County Correctional Facility. The Marion County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Marion County Correctional Facility. Originally, the Marion County Correctional Facility could house approximately 1892 inmates.
